## Homework Expections

Students will have homework most evenings. Homework is not collected until the next morning, even those completed in class. Students will have a homework folder to keep assignments that need to be turned into their teachers. This folder is also used to send home graded work and information to the parents from the office and community and is kept in their binder with their agenda. When you are checking the agenda for homework, make sure that homework is complete in the homework folder, ready to come back to school.

Math: students will have math to complete almost every night.

Science/Social Studies: students will be completing an outlined study guide over material that was covered in class. Generally students took notes on the information presented and most answers can be found within the pages of the textbook. Students usually have some time to work on these study guides in class either independently or with their team.

Helpful hints:

- work on homework shortly after getting home so topics learned at school are still fresh
- find a quiet, well lit location
- turn off the TV
- turn off cell phones
- put IPad away unless necessary to complete assignment

## Homework Policy

Our Fourth Grade procedure for what to do if a student doesn't complete their homework assignment(s) is as follows:

2. Failure to turn in homework third time in a week = loss to recess/study hall for 20 minutes and possibly loss of specials to provide time to get caught up

3. After fifteen missing days of homework, additional and more severe consequences will be issued

Severity Clause: If a student misses homework on a regular basis, then specials may be replaced by an additional study hall time to complete the missing assignments in addition to lunch/recess study hall.

- Forgets homework at home or didn't complete it = loss of recess/study hall for 20 minutes to work on assignment
